SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR VETERAN FAMILIES (SSVF) PROGRAM
Polk Office: 1959 E. Edgewood Drive, Suite 102, Lakeland, FL 33803
The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs has been authorized to offer community-based grants through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program, which will provide supportive services to very low-income Veteran families in or transitioning to permanent housing. St. Vincent de Paul assists very low-income Veteran families by providing a wide-range of supportive services designed to promote housing stability throughout Polk County.
SVDP will provide eligible Veterans and their families with outreach, case management, and assistance in obtaining VA and other public benefits, as well as other services which may include:
- Employment services
- Health care services
- Daily living services
- Personal financial planning services
- Transportation services
- Fiduciary & payee services
- Legal services
- Child care services
- Housing counseling services
- Identification services
In addition, SVDP may also provide time-limited payments to third parties (e.g., landlords, utility companies, moving companies, and licensed child care providers) if these payments help Veterans’ families stay in or acquire permanent housing on a sustainable basis.
Supportive services are available to eligible Veterans and other members of the household based on an assessment of their needs and individualized housing stability plan. Participation in case management is required to ensure the success of households assisted.
Each household is screened to determine the appropriateness of the program and whether other interventions may better meet the identified needs.
