Veteran Suicide Prevention Success at SVdP

A Milestone Worth Celebrating: 200 Veterans Served Through the SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Program

At St. Vincent de Paul CARES, we believe every Veteran deserves hope, healing, and a path forward. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce a major milestone: as of August 15, we’ve officially met our annual goal of serving 200 clients through the SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program — a full six weeks ahead of schedule!

This achievement is more than a number. It represents 200 lives touched, 200 stories of resilience, and 200 moments of hope. To put it in perspective: in the two years prior, the program served approximately 100 clients total — about 50 each year. This year, we’ve seen a 357% increase in outreach and impact, a testament to the dedication of our team and the strength of our community.

What Is the SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Program?

Named in honor of Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox, a U.S. Army sniper instructor who tragically died by suicide in 2020, the SSG Fox SPGP is a community-based initiative focused on suicide prevention for Veterans, active duty military, and their families.

Unlike many programs, homelessness is not a requirement for services. The program provides:

  • Baseline mental health screenings
  • Education on suicide risk and prevention
  • Case management and community-assisted support services
  • Outreach to individuals at increased risk of suicidal ideation or behavior

By addressing mental health challenges, substance abuse, chronic pain, and trauma, the program works to reduce suicide risk factors and improve overall well-being.

Why This Matters

Every outreach call, every follow-up, and every act of compassion contributes to saving lives. This milestone is a reflection of the tireless work of our Healthcare Navigation and Suicide Prevention team, led by Operations Manager Jason Mortham, and the unwavering support of our donors and partners.

But our work isn’t done.

There are more Veterans to reach, more families to support, and more hope to deliver.

Join Our Mission

Help us continue this life-saving work. Your donation can help us expand our reach, enhance our services, and ensure that no Veteran is left behind.

Together, we can honor the legacy of SSG Parker Gordon Fox and build a future where every Veteran has access to the support they deserve.
