VA Housing Assistance for Veterans

HOUSING & SUPPORT SERVICES THROUGH SVdP CARES

If you are a Veteran or Veteran family member facing homelessness, housing instability, or financial hardship, SVdP CARES provides VA housing assistance for Veterans across Florida and Puerto Rico.

Our programs help Veterans secure housing, prevent homelessness, and access the support services needed to maintain long-term stability.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF)

Rapid housing support for Veterans and their families.


The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program provides VA housing assistance for Veterans and their families who are experiencing homelessness or are at imminent risk due to a housing crisis.

Using a Housing First approach, we focus on quickly securing stable housing while connecting Veterans to the services needed to maintain long-term stability.

  • Legal services
  • Child care assistance
  • Housing counseling
  • Identification services

Time-limited financial assistance may also be available for:

  • Rent
  • Utilities
  • Moving expenses
  • Childcare (licensed providers)

SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program

Support for Veterans at increased risk of suicide.


The Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP) supports Veterans, active-duty service members, and their families who may be experiencing increased risk for suicidal ideation or behaviors.

Homelessness is not required to qualify for services.

Assistance Provided:

  • Mental health screenings (ages 18+)
  • Suicide prevention education for families and communities
  • Case management services
  • Community-based support

Who May Qualify:

  • Verified Veteran or military status
  • Increased suicide risk
  • Mental health challenges, substance use, chronic illness, or trauma
  • Does not require intensive case management

Shallow Subsidy Housing Assistance

Long-term rental support for low-income veterans.


The Shallow Subsidy program provides housing assistance for U.S. Veterans and Veteran families with low to extremely low income who need ongoing rental support to remain stably housed.

Offered through Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), this program provides modest rental assistance over a longer period of time, making it a strong option for Veterans who do not qualify for short-term rehousing or permanent housing programs.

What This Program Provides

  • Up to 50% of monthly rent paid
  • Assistance for up to two years
  • Light case management
  • Community-based support services

This program helps Veterans maintain stable housing while working toward long-term financial stability.

Who May Qualify

You may qualify if you:

  • Are enrolled in SSVF or HVRP
  • Do not qualify for PSH or VASH
  • Have household income between 30–50% AMI
  • Can pay your portion of the rent
  • Are currently housed and in good standing
  • Do not require intensive case management

Grant Per Diem (GPD) Program

Housing-focused case management for Veterans.


The GPD Case Management Program provides Veterans with personalized support to help them secure and maintain permanent housing. There is no cost for Veterans to enroll in this program.

Services Include:

  • Budgeting and financial counseling
  • Financial assistance (up to $500)
  • VA benefits navigation
  • Connections to community resources
  • Access to food banks and pantries
  • Incentive items after 30 days (food, gas, household items, utilities)

SVdP CARES provides VA housing assistance for Veterans and supportive services across 22 counties in Florida, as well as Puerto Rico, helping Veterans and Veteran families access housing, stability, and critical support.

We currently serve Veterans in the following Florida counties:

Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, Seminole, and Sumter.
