This Memorial Day, Your Gift Will Change a Veteran’s Life

A US Army Veteran and loving mother of two young children, Gabriele was faced with circumstances that would challenge even the strongest of individuals. Fleeing domestic abuse, and giving up financial security, she and her children had only one place to turn for refuge – one bedroom in her stepfather and mother’s house. Only to find another abusive environment, and kicked out onto the streets by her mother, she spiraled into an abyss.

Ending it all seemed like the only way to make it all go away. But in April 2025, when Gabriele was welcomed into the loving arms of SVdP CARES, everything changed.
“When I first met Gabrielle, she was carrying so much pain.

She felt like she had failed her children and often blamed herself for everything she had been through. She stayed quiet about her struggles for a long time,” reflects Gabriele’s SVdP CARES case manager.

Digging deep down, drawing upon her resilience and heroism, and embracing the care of the passionate team of SVdP CARES, Gabriele began to regain her self-confidence and selfworth.

“I feel empowered and encouraged as so much in my life has changed for the better.”

This summer, your gift will make a lasting difference for families like Gabriele’s, helping them confidently move toward a more stable future.

Veterans like Gabriele are still out there, hurting, unseen, and alone.

Your gift today can mean the difference between despair and a second chance.
