Juvenile Welfare Board New Community Partner

Building Brighter Futures: JWB Community Partnership Helps Local Families Overcome Homelessness

When a family experiences homelessness, the impacts reach far beyond housing. Children may struggle in school, parents face barriers to employment, and families often experience significant emotional and financial stress. That is why community partnerships are essential to creating lasting solutions.

St. Vincent de Paul CARES is honored to recognize the continued support of the Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County (JWB), whose significant $2.1M investment in family housing programs is helping local families move from crisis to stability and from homelessness to permanent housing.

A Powerful Investment in Families

During Fiscal Year 2026, the Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County has invested $2,136,596 in St. Vincent de Paul CARES programs that provide emergency shelter, housing assistance, and intensive case management services to families experiencing homelessness.

Through this funding, SVdP CARES can provide shelter and supportive services to up to 92 families annually, helping them achieve safe, stable, and permanent housing.

In addition, JWB funding supports 30 families through Rapid Rehousing services, which include individualized case management and rental assistance for up to six months. This evidence-based approach helps families quickly secure housing, regain stability, and prevent future episodes of homelessness.

Together, JWB and SVdP CARES are making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families throughout Pinellas County.

Why Housing Stability Matters

For many families, homelessness is not caused by a single event. A job loss, unexpected medical expense, family crisis, rising housing costs, or an eviction can quickly create a situation where parents struggle to keep a roof over their children’s heads.

Without stable housing, families face challenges that can impact every aspect of daily life. Children may have difficulty concentrating in school, maintaining attendance, or developing healthy social connections. Parents can struggle to maintain employment while managing housing instability and navigating a complex network of resources.

A stable home provides the foundation for everything else. When families have safe housing, children are better positioned to thrive academically and emotionally, parents can focus on employment and financial goals, and families can begin building a future rather than simply surviving day to day.

More Than Shelter: A Pathway to Self-Sufficiency

At St. Vincent de Paul CARES, our work goes beyond providing a temporary place to stay. Families participating in our programs receive personalized support designed to address the root causes of homelessness and strengthen long-term housing stability. Services may include:

  • Housing navigation and landlord engagement
  • Employment and income support
  • Financial literacy and budgeting education
  • Access to healthcare and behavioral health services
  • Childcare and educational resources
  • Connections to community support programs
  • Ongoing case management and goal planning

Our team works alongside each family to develop a customized plan that helps them overcome barriers, achieve self-sufficiency, and maintain stable housing for years to come.

The Impact of Rapid Rehousing

Rapid Rehousing is one of the most effective tools available to help families quickly exit homelessness.

Through short-term rental assistance and intensive case management, families can move directly into permanent housing while receiving the support they need to stabilize their finances and increase their income.

For parents trying to rebuild after a crisis, Rapid Rehousing often serves as the critical bridge between homelessness and independence.

Thanks to JWB’s support, 30 families each year will receive these life-changing services, helping parents regain stability and giving children the security of a place to call home.

Changing Lives, One Family at a Time

Behind every number is a family working toward a brighter future. A mother escaping domestic violence. A family displaced after a medical emergency. Parents struggling to keep up with rising housing costs. Children facing uncertainty about where they will sleep each night.

Through compassionate support, housing assistance, and community partnerships, families are given the opportunity to regain stability, rebuild their confidence, and create a new beginning.

These stories of resilience and hope are possible because organizations like JWB invest in solutions that work and because donors and community members continue to stand alongside our mission.

A Community-Wide Commitment to Ending Homelessness

Homelessness cannot be solved by one organization alone. It takes collaboration among nonprofits, government agencies, community leaders, businesses, foundations, and individuals who believe that every family deserves the safety and dignity of a stable home.

The partnership between the Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County and St. Vincent de Paul CARES demonstrates what is possible when organizations unite around a shared vision: ensuring that children and families have the resources they need to thrive.

We are deeply grateful for JWB’s commitment to strengthening families and creating lasting positive outcomes throughout Pinellas County.
