The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP) advances VA’s public health approach for Veteran suicide prevention which combines partnerships with the community with the availability of evidence-based clinical strategies for intervention.
Assistance Provided
- Baseline mental health screening (Participants over 18)
- Education on suicide risk/prevention to families and communities
- Case management services
- Community-assisted support services
Qualifications
- Veteran/military status verification
*homelessness not a requirement for services - Does not need intensive case management
- Has increased risk of suicidal ideations and/or behaviors
- Health Risk Factors: mental health challenges, substance abuse, chronic health conditions or pain, and traumatic brain injury
- Environmental Risk Factors: prolonged stress, stressful life events, homelessness, etc.
- Historical Risk Factors: previous suicide attempts or family history, abuse, trauma, etc.

About Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox
SSG Fox SPGP honors Veteran Parker Gordon Fox, who joined the Army in 2014 and was a sniper instructor at the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia. Known for a life of generosity and kindness to others in need, Fox died by suicide on July 21, 2020, at the age of 25.
